Perched on a large stones rising from the Indian Ocean, the new hotel responds to the dramatic landscape of Mahé with a design that is both respectful of history and boldly contemporary. The architecture draws inspiration from the exaggerated forms of traditional bungalow roofs, reinterpreting them as sculptural, sweeping elements that embrace the existing concrete structural skin from the previous project.
This approach creates a dialogue between past and present, where the historic form of the bungalow is amplified and reimagined to celebrate the site’s uniqueness. The building appears to hover and flow over the stone, echoing the movement of the ocean while grounding itself through the robust structural remnants of history. Large overhanging roofs provide shelter and shade, while open terraces and panoramic views connect guests intimately with the ocean, sky, and horizon.By embracing the existing concrete skin rather than erasing it, the hotel celebrates the layers of memory embedded in the site, transforming history into a spatial and experiential narrative. The architecture is both protective and inviting, creating a retreat that is at once dramatic, harmonious with the natural context, and deeply rooted in the identity of Mahé.
